Casting News for Dubya Flick

Casting News

/Film recently reported that Elizabeth Banks (The 40 Year Old Virgin) has been cast in the role of Laura Bush in Oliver Stone’s film W.

Other cast members include:
Josh Brolin: George W. Bush
Ellen Burstyn: Barbara Bush
James Cromwell: George Herbert Walker Bush

Now a bad list of actors…you can never go wrong with Ellen Burstyn. She was fantastic in Requiem for a Dream.

James Mangold does sci/fi

James Mangold is a very versatile director, and one of my personal favorites. He’s done so many varied films, all two years apart, ranging from Cop Land to Kate & Leopold, from Walk the Line to last year’s 3:10 to Yuma.

Word has it that James Mangold is scheduled to direct a sci/fi film called Cyclops, which is based on the graphic novel of the same name. While Mangnold has dabbled with sci/fi briefly in Kate and Leopold, this will be his first true sci/fi film.

Needless to say, I’m looking forward to what James Mangold has to offer us. His films are sometimes hit and miss, but he’s turned in some great films in the last few years.

I Am Legend: Alternate Ending

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYBriHghfbc]

It’s rare that I’ll see an alternate ending such as this that completely redefines the film and blows me away. From what I’ve been hearing, I really need to read the novel that I Am Legend is based on. Wow, even the meaning of the title is changed in light of this ending. I would have preferred seeing this in the theater.

Films to Watch Out For: The Red Baron

I’m surprised that I hadn’t heard about this one before. Nikolai Müllerschön is helming The Red Baron (2008) starring Joseph Fiennes and Lena “Sarah Connor” Headey, and will be released in Germany on April 10th.

Not only is it a WWI film from the German perspective, but the VXF Reel kicks some serious heiney:

Steve Wiebe Goes for the Record…Again

picture.jpg

This just in: According to Twin Galaxies, Steve Wiebe will be attempting to reclaim the world record for having the best Donkey Kong score, which Billy Mitchell currently holds. The contest will be held in Las Vegas tomorrow night at 6:00-10:00 PM.

According to Twin Galaxies’ scoreboard, here’s how it’s stacked up:

1. Billy L Mitchell 1,050,200 points 06/26/2007
2. Steve J Wiebe 1,049,100 points 03/23/2007

Will Billy Mitchell still be the “King of Kong” tomorrow night?
